Rep. Takano Offers Amendments to Protect Federals Lands from Exploitation and Drilling
Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.) released the following statement on three amendments he will offer to amend the Strategic Production Response Act.
“The Strategic Production Response Act serves the interest of Big Oil, subverting policies that help lower gas prices for the American people and undermining the Administration’s ability to tap into the strategic petroleum reserve, all while opening up more Federal lands to exploitation by private sector interests,” said Rep. Mark Takano. “I’m offering three amendments to combat this politically motivated effort and protect our natural resources.”
The amendments offered by Rep. Takano are:
- Amendment #80: Requires the Secretary to provide a public comment period of 90 days before finalizing the plan.
- Amendment #81: Requires the Secretary to consider the number of approved but inactive Federal oil and gas leases and permits to drill in the development of the plan.
- Amendment #82: Prohibits the plan from providing for any increase in oil and gas drilling if such activities impact the deployment of renewable energy projects on federal lands. Requires the Secretary of Energy to certify that increased oil and gas drilling on Federal lands would not impact such deployment of renewable energy projects.
